CEO, PICL Lab

Chanpil Jung is a former KBS documentary producer who discovered learning science while making his 2013 documentary on the “flipped classroom.” He founded the nonprofit Future Class Network to spread it nationwide, spending a decade validating it with teachers, and in 2025 developed PICL, an AI platform that designs teaching using learning science.

PICL: Where Learning Science Meets AI

“While humans learned like machines, machines learned like humans.”

That’s the lament PICL began from. fMRI uncovered how the brain learns — and that discovery fueled machine learning’s breakthroughs, while human education stayed stuck on the industrial-era conveyor belt of factory schooling. So I made AI vomit back what it had learned from us, and turned that vomit into fuel for Agentic AI. The goal: education that’s scientific, and therefore more human, and easy for anyone to put into practice. The result: a 12th-grade math class full of kids who’d given up became fully immersed, and a stale university lecture hall turned, almost overnight, into a hub of active learning. Can this magic last — and spread?
