Yujin Yaguchi

Yujin Yaguchi is Vice President (Global Education) and Professor of Cultural Studies at Graduate School of Arts and Sciences of the University of Tokyo. He serves as Director of the Center for Global Education (GlobE) and especially focuses on leading the university’s effort to globalize its undergraduate education. He is also Vice Director of “UTokyo College of Design” Planning and Coordination Office (to be launched in the fall of 2027).

He received his B.A. from Goshen College and his master’s and doctoral degrees in American Studies from the College of William and Mary. He was also a Fulbright visiting scholar to U.C. Santa Cruz and the East-West Center (Honolulu). He has published and presented widely in Japanese and English on the intercultural dynamics of Japan-Pacific-US relations, especially focusing on Hawai‘i. At the University of Tokyo, he has taught courses on topics such as Pacific Cultural Studies and Museum Representations. His comments and remarks on global education as well as on U.S. related issues have appeared in major media including the BBC, CNN, New York Times and Japan Times.
